Philip of Spain paid a surprise visit to King Charles at Clarence House

The king Philip VI visited Charles III at Clarence House, the London residence of the king. The meeting, which was not part of King Philip’s official schedule, was private, though the Spanish Royal House has published a series of images of the two which convey the relaxed atmosphere in which it took place. Both are dressed formally, in blue suits and ties. Filippo’s tie is blue, while Carlo chose a printed beige one and added his personal touch of style with the pink handkerchief in his jacket pocket. Even the environment in which they pose for these photos is welcoming, a room full of homely details: a fireplace, various paintings, a lamp, a candelabra, a glass cabinet and a clock.

Felipe VI took advantage of his trip to the British capital to preside over the gala dinner commemorating the 135th anniversary of the creation of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom, to greet the monarch in the residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who have been living for some time in this historic house built in the 1920s, where Princess Anne was born and where Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh after their marriage. Before them, the Queen lived in Clarence House Mother and Princess Margaret.

It is the first time that Philip VI and the new king have met after the funeral of Elizabeth II of September, in which the Spanish ruler participated, accompanied by Queen Letizia. It is not the first time, however, that the King of Spain has visited Charles at his residence. In 2017, during the Spanish Monarch and Queen’s first official trip to the UK, he and Letizia were received by the then Prince and Princess of Wales at Clarence House. We will have to wait a little longer for a similar picture to repeat itself.
