Philipp Plein launches sportswear line at Decentraland

The creator of fashionable sportswear and shoes presented a new Plein Sport collection in the Decentraland metaverse.

German designer Philipp Plein has partnered with blockchain auction house Portion to launch a collection of stylish sneakers that will come with a non-fungible token (NFT) in addition to the physical form.

“Metaverse refers not only to a certain type of technology, but to the fluid interaction that we have with the virtual space when we seek to integrate it with the real one,” Plain commented on the presentation of the collection.

Asked about the potential transformation of Plein Sport into an NFT-only clothing line, the designer said that his “job is to sell fashion, I’m not speculating on selling NFT, however, he wants to add value to his collection in the metaverse.”

The designer is famous for buying about $1.4 million worth of land in Decentraland in February. His Plein Plaza Decentraland consists of 65 lots and includes a virtual hotel, art museum, shops and residences. Last year, Plein announced that his label would accept at least 24 different cryptocurrencies as payment.

It was recently revealed that virtual reality platform Decentraland will be holding a four-day event featuring renowned designers and high fashion houses to present wearable avatar collections.
