At least 24 people have been killed in floods and landslides in central and southern Philippines after heavy rains caused by a tropical storm, authorities said today.
More than 13,000 people rushed to emergency shelters as the storm flooded homes, fields and destroyed roads and power lines, the National Disaster Management Agency said.
The central province of Leite suffered the most damage, with landslides killing 21 people in four villages, Baybei natural disaster management officer Rice Austero told AFP.
Photos posted on Facebook show many houses in the village of Bunga, one of the worst-hit in Leite province, covered in mud up to the roofs.
Three other people were killed in Mindanao, an island in the southern Philippines, the National Disaster Management Agency said earlier.
