Photographic census? IBGE will award the best images made by census takers

The 2022 Demographic Census, carried out by census takers from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), was finalized and the result released last week.

In addition to statistics made from household surveys, the new edition of the study also provided everyone with extraordinary photos taken by professionals in the field.

And to reward the efforts of these essential collaborators to have a complete x-ray of the country, the IBGE holds the first edition of the Demographic Census Photographic Award .

The process began on July 18, 2022, with the release of the notice with the rules for participation, being restricted only to the entity’s census takers, who had to use the Mobile Collection Device (DMC) to take the photos.

Each citizen was able to vote for a single photo in each of the following categories: urban landscapes, rural landscapes and housing.

Currently, the contest is in its second phase, with the choice of the three best photographs in each category. The final result will be revealed to the public on the scheduled date of September 1, 2023, according to the published schedule.

Three awards per category

According to the contest rules, the three most voted photos in each category will receive the following prizes:

  • 1st place: BRL 5,000;
  • 2nd place: BRL 3,000; It is
  • 3rd place: BRL 1,000.
