Pillow War goes to the ring and seeks to become a professional sport

The pillow fight will move from the bedroom to the boxing ring when the Fight Pillow Championship (PFC) holds its first live pay-per-view event in Florida on January 29, 2022.

Steve Williams, the man with the dream of turning children’s games into a professional combat sport, said the PFC offers all the drama of hand-to-hand combat without the blood of mixed martial arts or boxing.

“It’s not something where you sit and laugh and the feathers fly,” Williams, PFC CEO, told Reuters. “Really. It is heavy to control the specialized pillows.”

Although the male and female competitors at the January event mainly come from the cruel world of MMA and boxing, kids can sleep soundly after watching the fights.

“The only difference between our fights and MMA fights is that nobody gets hurt,” said the CEO. “Fighters don’t like to get hurt and there are a lot of people who don’t want to see the blood. They want to see a good competition, but without violence”.

The fact that so many people grew up beating their siblings, friends and parents with pillows makes the sport interesting, and he hopes it will help reach a new audience.

“You can call it an alternative sport, but we think it will have popular appeal,” he said. “Think of how they blended country music with rap music and brought this diverse audience together. That’s what we’re doing and we hope it brings a different kind of spectator,” he added.

The three-round matches will be available for viewing on the Fite sports streaming platform.
