Pilot and co-pilot of Marília Mendonça are buried in the Federal District

The bodies of pilot Geraldo Medeiros, 56, and co-pilot Tarciso Viana, 37, were buried this Sunday (7) in the federal District. The two are among the five victims of the accident with the plane that was carrying the singer Marília Mendonça.

The aircraft crashed in Piedade de Caratinga, in Vale do Rio Doce, in the west of Minas Gerais, on Friday (5).

In addition to the singer, Marília’s uncle and advisor, Abicieli Silveira Dias Filho, and producer Henrique Ribeiro, in addition to the two crew members, also died in the accident.

Initially, Geraldo’s family planned to cremate the body and take the ashes to Floriano, in Piauí, the pilot’s hometown.

But at the end of the morning, the family decided that Geraldo, father of three, would be buried in Campo da Esperança Cemetery, in Asa Sul, in Brasília. The ceremony was around 11:30 am.

The wake of co-pilot Tarciso Pessoa Viana also began this Sunday morning. He was buried in the Taguatinga Cemetery, in the Federal District, at 11:00 am. He left two children and his wife eight months pregnant.

The singer Marília was buried yesterday (6), in the Parque Memorial Cemetery, in Goiânia. The burial was attended only by family members. Before, the body was veiled in the Goiânia Arena gym. Throughout the afternoon, fans and friends of the artist paid their last respects.

Accident

The aircraft that carried Marília, model Beech Aircraft, fell on Friday afternoon, near a waterfall where there were rocks, at a distance of just over two kilometers from the airport in Caratinga, where a concert by the artist was scheduled. Firefighters were called at 3:30 pm to respond to the incident.

The plane was from the company Pec Táxi Aéreo Ltda and had its Airworthiness Verification Certificate (CVA) valid until July 1, 2022.

After the accident, the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa), an agency of the Air Force Command, was called to investigate the causes of the tragedy that killed the singer and her team, as well as the crew.

On Saturday afternoon, the Minas Gerais Energy Company (Cemig) released a statement about the accident. The aircraft collided with an electrical power transmission line.

According to the note, the “distribution line hit by the aircraft with the prefix PT-ONJ, in yesterday’s tragic accident, is outside the protection zone of the Caratinga Aerodrome, pursuant to a specific Ordinance of the Department of Airspace Control (Decea), of the Brazilian Air Force Command”.

The company also said that investigations by the authorities will clarify the causes of the accident.
