Pilot asked for “immediate return” before plane crashed in SP; Listen to the audios

The pilot Gustavo Carneiro, who died after the plane crashes in the West Zone of Sao Paulo, on Friday (8), requested “immediate return” from the control tower after takeoff.

A recording obtained by the website “Aeroescuta” and provided to CNN by the channel “Golf Oscar Romeo” shows the dialogue.

In the audio the flight controller gives the Beechcraft F90 King Air, registration for the takeoff, just after takeoff. In response to the guidance, Gustavo Carneiro said: “PS-FEM requests immediate return.” The conversation starts from the 1:06 minute.

With the order, the tower gives guidance for the aircraft to return to Campo de Mars airport on track 30. Following, another pilot said he would “wait for the colleague who requested immediate return.”

Then the flight controller tries to contact the PS-FEM, but is not answered. She asks, then, if the pilot of the waiting aircraft gets contact with the plane she had taken off. The aircraft pilot identified in the recording as “Serra Delta” (SD) calls the PS-FEM and is not answered either.

The conversation between the Tower and the Serra Delta pilot follows, in an attempt to contact the plane of pilot Gustavo Carneiro, who was accompanied by lawyer Márcio Carpenna on board. The commander of Serra Delta also states that “a problem may have happened.”

At this moment a third pilot, identified as “Alpha November” (AN), who reports the tower has seen “smoke too”. Without obtaining return, the flight controller advises that the Serra Delta plane maintains position on the track.

“Serra Delta will wait a few more moments for takeoff, ok? Keep the waiting position, ”said the controller. “I’m waiting, miss. Listen, what a tragedy, ”replied the pilot.

From the 3:15 minute it is possible to identify that other pilots will report to the Campo de Mars Airport Control Tower. At one point, the controller asks one of them if, as he is, it is possible to see smoke.

“Is there anything that can help?” Said a pilot. “Can you kindly identify if it was any aircraft?” The controller replied. “I can’t, ma’am. Lots of black smoke, I can’t identify what it is, ”continued the commander.

Another pilot said he fell over the scene of the accident on Marquês de São Vicente Avenue. “I passed now, over there, it’s on fire on the avenue. And a bus started to catch fire there. The back of the bus, ”he said.

“Rotary wings that are listening to the tower, if you have any more information, please pass to the Mars Tower,” said the flight controller.

Fall after takeoff

According to registration with the FlightTar24 website, the plane took off at 7:17 am (for the time of Brasília). The aircraft was destined for the city of Porto Alegre. When the plane was flying over the Order and Progress Avenue region in the northern part of the state capital, it began a sharp curve to the left.

Then the aircraft crossed the Marginal Tietê, between the Julius de Mesquita Neto and Lemon bridges, until he collides against the ground, on Marquês de São Vicente Avenue, in Barra Funda. The scene of the accident is about a kilometer from Allianz Parque and Bourbon Shopping.

Inside the plane were the pilot, Gustavo Carneiro Medeiros, and lawyer Márcio Carpenna, 49. The two died charred.

After the fall, the aircraft also hit the back of a bus. Inside the collective were 30 passengers, the driver and the collector. Two passengers and the driver needed service. In total, according to the Fire Department, seven people were injured on the ground.

The Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), linked to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), will investigate the case.
