Pilot Edenilson de Oliveira Costa, who survived the plane crash involving a helicopter on Friday (17), in Caieiras (SP), told the Fire Department where the child was. THE CNN Military Police lieutenant, Aline Ferreira Inácio, reported that, during the rescue, the pilot showed extreme concern for the girl, who turned 12 years old on the day of the accident.
The aircraft departed from São Paulo on Thursday night (16) and was destined for the city of Americana, where the family would celebrate the child’s birthday. The business couple André and Juliana Feldman, who were also on the aircraft, were the girl’s parents and were found dead.
“When we were flying over the region, we saw the aircraft and, on the left side, we also saw a man in the middle of the forest, very tired and weakened. He was very worried about the girl at all times,” he said.
According to the agent, Edenilson immediately told the agents that the girl was alive and detailed where the corporation should look for her.
“He gave her the coordinates of where she was. He said ‘go down this ravine and, passing a stream, when you start going up again, go on the right side’”, he recalled.
According to the lieutenant, the agents followed the coordinates and, upon arriving at the scene, they began calling for the girl. “It’s a very dense forested area. There are some slippery hills, a very difficult area to get around. We started calling and, at a certain point, she responded,” said the soldier.
According to third sergeant Rodrigo Pelegrini, who participated in the rescue, when found, the girl said it was her birthday and asked about her parents.
“The first sentence she said was that it was her birthday and that they were going to the city of Americana to have the birthday party. We tried to calm her down. She said: ‘my parents died, right?’. We said that her parents would be helped to try to calm her down”, he said.
What is known about the accident
An EC 130B4 model helicopter with prefix PRWVT was on its way to Americana when it lost GPS signal at around 8:34 pm on Thursday night (16). The aircraft was found on Friday morning (17), in Morro do Tico Tico, in Caieiras, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, close to Rodovia dos Bandeirantes.
The region is forested and difficult to access, close to kilometer 30 of the Bandeirantes Highway. Traffic was closed during rescue work.
Investigations into the causes of the accident will be carried out by Cenipa (Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center).
