The passengers on an American Airlines plane were in tears when Mr pilot delivered a moving speech on his last flight after 32 years. Before the Chicago-bound flight took off last week, Jeff Fell stood at the front of the cabin to say a final goodbye.
At first, his speech seemed like any other. Fell welcomed the passengers to the aircraft, introduced himself, informed them of the flight time and the weather. He then admitted that it was strange for him to do the briefing outside the cockpit.
“I usually don’t get up in front of everyone like that, I usually stay in the cockpit and talk on the loudspeaker. If I am getting a little emotional, please forgive me for that,” he said.
With the passengers not yet knowing what was to come, he pointed to a group of “very important people” to him sitting in the back of the plane.
His voice broke with emotion and the passengers broke into applause. “He’s with me on my retirement flight after 32 years at American,” he said.
“Thank you all for joining me tonight and celebrating this very memorable moment in my life. I love you all,” he said trying to hold back tears.
There was another round of applause from the passengers and Fell added: “I didn’t mean to get emotional, but God forgive me.”
He then referred to “my wonderful wife Julie who has been by my side for most of my 32 years at American. He has been the rock, the solid stone in the foundation of our life and our marriage. Her faith in the Lord, wisdom, strength and love guided our marriage and family through the years. I love you and look forward to the next chapter in our lives. And welcome everyone.”
The video posted by passenger Justin Harrison on TikTok has been viewed more than three million times. Thousands of social media users wrote their comments, with many confessing that the video brought tears to their eyes.
