During breast cancer awareness month, free mammograms and screening tests to detect the disease will be offered in eleven points in the state of São Paulo until December by the NGO Américas Amigas.
The action began last Friday (27) and the health services will be aimed at people in social vulnerability, from 40 years of age onwards, the range indicated for screening the disease — tests that look for changes — which allows cancer to be diagnosed early.
THE Chance of cure is up to 95% when breast cancer is diagnosed early according to experts and medical entities. According to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality among women in Brazil.
Of the total number of breast cancer cases diagnosed by Américas Amigas, 33% are under 50 years of age and 18% are over 70 years of age, which means that 51% are outside the age range served by public services, which is 50 to 69. years.
The campaign takes place through the organization’s mobile unit, which is equipped with a mammography, ultrasound and examination film printer. Results are delivered within 2 hours after completion.

Services take place from 8 am to 4 pm and interested people must register via Américas Amigas website. The organization operates throughout the
Brazil and throughout the year, through our own initiatives and in partnership with other social organizations and charitable institutions.
