There Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation he presented Pinky Pinky 'Good': San Giacomo's Leap into Tomorrowthe new project by the Korean artist, dancer and choreographer Eun-Me Ahnon the island of San Giacomo, in Venice.
The event, curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, was un collective and transformative blessing ritual, inspired by the Korean shamanic tradition and conceived for the Island of San Giacomo. Eun-Me Ahn invoked the spirits of the past on an island that, at various times, hosted an ancient monastery and a Napoleonic-era military garrison, honoring its new existence as a place for contemporary art. The project followed a dynamic progression incorporating smoke and stones painted pink on the island, enriching its spaces with unexpected stages and symbols. Inside the former powder magazine, the artist has established a unique connection between the afterlife and the present through the inclusion of human sculptures, eliciting a fluid interweaving of time and space that transcends historical boundaries. Eun-Me Ahn concluded the performance by symbolically pouring Venetian seawater onto the island using a crane, an allusion to a bold leap into the future of San Giacomo through the transformation of its fundamental elements into new symbols. With this action, the project reaffirmed the historical importance of the island and its cultural potential, inaugurating a new era that harmoniously blends art and science, tradition and innovation.
Pinky Pinky 'Good' it is not an outdoor performance or dance, but – in the artist's words – an “encounterface project”, a “choreographed meeting through uncertainty” between artists, performers and the public. From simple performers, Eun-Me Ahn, the dancers and musicians of Pinky Pinky “Good” they become “mediators” and “human infrastructures”. They guide visitors to abandon the status of mere spectators, calling each person to actively participate in this transformative ritual.
The project is accompanied by a publication edited by Mark Rappolt which was distributed during the event. The event, produced by the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, was also made possible thanks to the sponsors Asja and UBS, the technical sponsor Samsung Foundation of Culture and the support of PKM Gallery.
