Piraeus Bank, in a special event held on Thursday, May 5, awarded scholarships to high school graduates of 2021 who come from the fire-affected areas of Lake – Gouves – Agia Anna, North Evia.
The Bank, in the context of the broader program to support fire victims, awarded scholarships amounting to 2,500 euros to 34 graduates who were admitted to universities in the academic year 2021-2022.
Welcoming the event, the CEO of Piraeus Bank Mr. Christos Megalou, after congratulating the graduates, referred to the decision of the Bank to help in many ways, in the effort for the reconstruction and development of North Evia through a broad program that includes many actions in support of the local community, the production and the economy of the areas affected by the catastrophic fires of 2021.
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Mr. Simos Kedikoglou, who stressed that Piraeus Bank was close to the people and the affected areas from the first moment. He particularly pointed out the importance of the Bank’s actions aimed at children and young people with whom, as he said, V. Evia will be better rebuilt. Mr. Kedikoglou also referred to initiatives that the ministry will take, together with the Bank for the rural economy, with a focus on the utilization of community programs.
It is reminded that the Bank, in addition to granting scholarships, implements specific actions aimed at students and school units of Primary and Secondary Education in the fire-affected areas of North Evia. Specifically, it has already installed 25 interactive whiteboards in Primary School Units of the municipalities of Istiaia Edipsos and Mantoudi – Lake Agia Anna and has delivered 269 tablets to Secondary Schools in the areas of Lake – Gouv. At the same time, it is proceeding with the implementation of projects for the landscaping of courtyards of Preschool Education Units in these areas.
