A pitbull dog was shot dead this Monday (29), after attacking a team from the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) that was carrying out an operation to demolish two irregular buildings on Ilha da Gigóia, in the west zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the MP, a prosecutor was injured in the attack and was taken for medical care. The case was registered at the region's police station to determine the responsibility of the animal's owner.
The operation, a partnership between the Specialized Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO) and the Municipal Public Order Secretariat (SEOP), aims to demolish two buildings that were built without authorization from the city hall.
The three-story buildings had two to four apartments per floor. According to the MP, the estimated loss to those responsible for the work is R$3.5 million. The buildings have approximately 900 square meters of built area. See images below .
According to the MP, the first building was nearing completion and the second was under construction. The buildings were erected irregularly without any license and do not meet the urban planning parameters of the region.
According to the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale, the region of Ilha da Gigóia has been influenced by the militia, which takes advantage of irregular constructions to profit. “Certainly, these works, without having a license, also do not have an approved project, are not safe. So we are here to preserve people’s lives and financially stifle organized crime,” he said.
