In April, the number of payments via Pix reached 11.5% in e-commerce, reaching a historic mark since the implementation of the instant payment method in November 2020. In April last year, Pix represented only 2.6 % of e-commerce orders.
Pix’s share of revenue is also on the rise in digital retail and represented 4% of total revenue in the same month. The highest index of 2022 and second highest in history, only behind December 2021, which pointed to 4.2% – driven by Christmas and end-of-year shopping.
The survey was carried out by Neotrust, an intelligence company that monitors Brazilian e-commerce.
In the 1st quarter of 2022, Pix’s share in e-commerce also recorded growth in the number of transactions. In January of this year, Pix reached an 8.3% share; in February it was 8.8%; and in March it closed at 9.7%. In the first three months of 2021, the index was 1.7%, 2.5% and 3.4% for January, February and March, respectively.
“Pix has been advancing considerably as a payment method in e-commerce, and currently has a share of more than 10% of digital purchases in the country. Despite being a big difference from one year to the next, we have noticed a continuous monthly evolution of Pix in e-commerce payments since April 2021”, analyzes Paulina Dias, Intelligence leader at Neotrust.
According to data from the Central Bank, from November 2020 to May this year, more than 454 million (454,547,375) Pix keys were created. So far, Brazil has more than 128 million (128,719,758) registered users.
Between May 16 and June 13 of this year, just over R$746 billion (R$746,875.69 billion) were transacted via Pix, including payment orders and returns in this period.
Joining Pix exceeded BC’s expectations. The new payment format was launched in November 2020 with the aim of increasing efficiency, reducing costs and expanding the number of users of the financial system. The tool allows you to transfer resources in a matter of seconds through your cell phone at any time of the day. The system is free for individuals.
Paulina Dias, intelligence leader at Neotrust, highlights some precautions that consumers need to take when making an online purchase. One of them is the reputation of the stores.
“With the growth in online fraud, consumers should be aware of the store’s reliability and reputation before making digital purchases with Pix. Promotions with prices well below average and offers with unknown links can indicate an attempted scam. It is essential that the buyer checks the merchant’s data, such as CPF and CNPJ, and the value before making payment via Pix”, explains Neotrust’s Intelligence leader.
In order to increase the security of the means of payment, the BC has improved some tools such as the precautionary block and a special return mechanism, which aims to facilitate returns in the event of fraud.
