Pix Saque and Pix Troco represent 5% of total transactions; know where to do

Widely accepted among Brazilians, the Pix tool, from the Central Bank (BC), gained two new modalities last year: the Pix Saque and Pix Troco functions, available since the end of November.

According to BC data, the functions recorded more than 290,000 transactions between December and the last month of March – a sum that represents 5% of total transactions in the instant payment modality in the period, around 5.7 million.

Payments and transfers via Pix already exceed those made by TED, DOC, check and bank slips.

The Withdrawal and Change functions were created to facilitate the withdrawal of cash by the user, who no longer necessarily needs to go to a bank branch or ATMs, being able to make withdrawals at commercial establishments that have adhered to the modalities.

According to the BC, there are already approximately 15,000 points in the country that offer Pix Saque and Pix Troco, among shops, agencies and ATMs. The Brazilian Association of Fintechs (ABFintechs) and Pay Ventures have developed a tool to connect users to the nearest service centers: the Pix map updated every two hours based on opening hours.

how they work

Pix Saque allows users to withdraw cash from any point of sale, such as bakeries and supermarkets. It is worth mentioning that the establishment must have requested the BC to be a “withdrawal agent”.

The method is simple: when the desired amount for withdrawal is informed, the merchant must generate a QR Code for the customer to make the payment. Afterwards, he receives the transferred amount in cash.

At Pix Troco, the customer, when making a purchase at the establishment, can ask to have the surplus in physical cash. For example, if the account total was R$200, he can transfer R$300 to receive R$100 in hand.

In the end, an extract will prove the transaction, which will be computed by the Central Bank.

For safety, the amounts that can be withdrawn or exchanged are limited. During the day, up to BRL 500 can be withdrawn. At night (from 8 pm to 6 am), up to BRL 100.

The BC points out that traders are free to institute lower limits if they so choose.

Individuals and individual entrepreneurs can carry out up to 8 transactions per month at no additional cost. As of the 9th, relationship financial institutions may charge a fee for the service.
