The Planalto Palace launched phone calls this Monday (14) to deputies and senators to arrange a meeting on the presentation of a bill to eliminate federal tax on gasoline.
The idea is that a meeting between congressmen and ministers will be held on Tuesday (15). The objective is to verify if there is congressional support for the proposal, which proposes to zero PIS/Cofins and faces resistance from the economic team.
According to sources heard by CNN Brasil, this weekend, President Jair Bolsonaro discussed the issue with the ministers of the Economy, Paulo Guedes, and the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira.
In addition to presenting the proposal, the president’s intention is also to probe congressmen about the declaration of a public state of emergency. of calamity or public emergency, which must be approved by the National Congress.
According to the federal government’s calculations, zeroing the federal tax could reduce the price of fuel at the pump by up to BRL 0.69. The president said on Saturday (12) that the adoption of a fuel subsidy program is “an exceptional issue” and that the decision will have the final word on Guedes.
“He [Guedes] has already given an indication of this possibility if the barrel of oil explodes abroad, because if you throw all the price on the consumer, Brazil explodes inflation and explodes the economy”, he said.
The political articulation of Palácio do Planalto is in favor of a subsidy program or a proposal to zero PIS/Cofins, unlike the economic team, which evaluates raising Auxílio Brasil to compensate for fuel increases.
The three possibilities are considered by the president, who would have signaled to allied congressmen this weekend that one of the three proposals will be adopted by the end of this week.
