The bodies of the victims of the accident involving Voepass flight 2283, which occurred last Friday (9), should begin to be buried this week.
The crash of an ATR 72-500 of the company, registration PS-VPB, took off from Cascavel (PR) and was heading to Guarulhos airport, but crashed in Vinhedo (SP) after about an hour and a half of flight. All 62 people on board died, including 58 passengers and four crew members.
All of the victims’ bodies have already been removed from the accident site by agents of the São Paulo Fire Department. They were taken to the central Legal Medical Institute (IML) in the capital of São Paulo, where they await identification.
There is no deadline for all the bodies to be identified. The São Paulo Scientific Police have asked family members to collect genetic material and send exams and medical histories of the victims to assist in the identification process.
The mayor of Cascavel, Leonaldo Paranhos, announced that he will make the city’s events center available for a mass wake. The space should begin to be prepared as early as Monday (12).
The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) announced that it will transfer the bodies from São Paulo to Cascavel.
Black box analysis
The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) reported on Sunday (11) that it was able to recover all the information contained in the crashed plane’s black boxes.
The plane that crashed in Vinhedo had two black boxes: the cockpit voice recorder (CVR), which captures the last hours of conversations between the crew and internal sounds of the aircraft; and the flight data recorder (FDR), which captures technical information about the path taken by the plane until it crashed.
The analysis of the black boxes is a fundamental step in the investigation, which will help to understand what caused the accident. Other factors are also important in the investigation of the case, such as the position of the wreckage and the observation of videos recorded by neighbors that show the moment the plane falls into a tailspin.
