Plane crash: scientific police assist victims’ families in Cascavel

The Paraná Scientific Police reports that it has already assisted 26 families of victims of the Voepass flight 2883 accident, which left 62 victims in the interior of São Paulo, on the afternoon of this Friday (9).

The corporation has set up a service network since last Friday at its headquarters in Cascavel, in the western part of Paraná, the departure point of the plane that crashed in Vinhedo.

Police have also set up a data collection and DNA sampling point at a hotel in the city to identify victims of the disaster.

So far, 15 people have collected genetic material using oral swabs. The samples will be sent to the São Paulo Scientific Police along with dental and medical documentation.

Another 14 public servants, who work with forensic anthropology, were sent to the site to reinforce the service.

The Scientific Police asks that family members bring any type of personal identification document of the victim, such as x-rays, photos of teeth, surgery reports and recent photos and videos that show physical characteristics such as tattoos.

The aircraft took off from Cascavel and was headed for Guarulhos International Airport, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The ATR 72-500, registration PS-VPB, crashed into a housing complex in Vinhedo, as shown in images on social media, falling onto a plot of land next to residences.

Of the 62 dead, 58 were passengers and four were crew members. This is the sixth deadliest plane crash in Brazilian history.
