Plane crashes during air show in Hungary – 2 dead

Aircraft crashed during air show yesterday Sunday at Hungary killing the two passengers and injuring four other people on the ground, authorities said.

“According to the preliminary information, in addition to the pilot, there was one passenger on board the aircraft (…) Both lost their lives,” the Hungarian police said in the press release they published.

The tragedy unfolded in the Szekesfehervar region, 70 kilometers southwest of Budapest. Four people were injured on the ground, three of whom suffered serious burns, emergency services said. A woman, a man and a little girl are seriously injured. Little boy suffered minor injuries.

In a video he uploaded to the local media’s websitethe demonstration aircraft – it was a US Army T-28 Trojan, built in 1951, according to the Hungarian press – makes a vertical descent before crashing and exploding.

“The small aircraft crashed near a parked car and caught fire,” police said in a statement.

“The crash happened very close to the site of the aerobatics show,” which attracted thousands of spectators, a spokeswoman for the national ambulance service told AFP.
