Plane faces strong turbulence just before landing in the US; 11 people are injured

Eleven people on a Delta Airlines plane were taken to a hospital on Tuesday (29) after severe turbulence hit a flight from Milan, Italy, to Atlanta, in the United States, a spokesman for the company told the CNN .

The plane was carrying 151 passengers and 14 crew when the turbulence hit. The injured include crew and passengers. The extent of the injuries was not detailed.

“Delta Care team members are mobilizing to connect with customers on Delta Flight 175, which experienced severe turbulence before landing safely in Atlanta on Tuesday,” the spokesperson said.

The flight was located about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport when the turbulence occurred, before finally landing safely, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“Our priority is to care for our customers and crew who have suffered injuries. We are grateful to the first responders who found the aircraft to provide medical care and who are transporting the injured to the hospital,” added a Delta spokesperson.
