A Canadian airport was “closed to commercial traffic for the rest of the day” after a Flair Airlines plane “ran off the runway” on Friday morning (25) during landing, the airport and airline said in statement.
Flair Airlines Flight F8 501 from Vancouver to Kitchener-Waterloo had 134 passengers on board, plus crew, when it veered off the runway at the end of its landing at Waterloo Region International Airport, the airline said.
The airport is located in Breslau, Ontario, about 104 kilometers southwest of Toronto.
No injuries were reported, the statement said. Passengers disembarked from the aircraft and were taken by bus to the terminal.
The plane was left parked in a grassy area off the runway, with emergency vehicles surrounding it, according to photos taken by Tracey Quast, a Waterloo resident.
“In accordance with airport procedures, our team responded to the incident to ensure the safety of those on board,” the airport statement said, adding that the Transport Safety Board of Canada was on site conducting a review.
