Transport was the category with the biggest price increases, according to the statistics published yesterday by ELSTAT.

In relation to June, a de-escalation was observed, as the General CPI showed a decrease of 1.8% against a decrease of 1.4%.

According to EL.STAT., compared to July 2021, a 20.6% increase was observed in the “Transportation” group, mainly due to an increase in prices in:
new cars, used cars, car parts and accessories, fuel and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, taxi passenger transport, air passenger tickets, ferry passenger tickets.

Increase in passenger traffic compared to last year

However, despite the significant increases in air and ferry tickets, the mood to travel is “hyper”.
It is indicative that, according to CAA data and at all Greek airports, traffic in the first half of 2022 approached 90.6% of 2019, with the total number of passengers handled reaching 22,407,879.
In fact, in June, passenger arrivals from abroad were marginally higher compared to June 2019 (3,480,812, up 0.1%).

Compared to last year, the increase in passenger traffic amounted to 269.1% in the first half and in June to 167.6%.

Correspondingly, in coastal shipping, the movement peaks. On the last weekend of July, approximately 106,000 passengers departed from the port of Piraeus for Crete, Argosaronicos, Cyclades, Eastern Aegean and Dodecanese, when in the same period last year 91,000 had departed, marking an increase of 16.48%.

Since the beginning of July, more than 765,000 passengers departed from the port of Piraeus alone, while 173,000 from Rafina.

According to data from the Coast Guard, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, there was an increase of 13% in the port of Piraeus and 11.6% in the port of Rafina.
