SK hynix has unveiled the fastest M.2-2280 SSD in its own brand, the Platinum P41. Targeting the enthusiast home PC segment, it is the first SK hynix customer segment to feature PCIe 4.0 x4. The drive uses a proprietary SK hynix controller codenamed Aries, the latest 176-layer 3D NAND flash and DDR4 DRAM cache.
SK hynix Platinum P41 is available in three sizes: 500GB, 1TB and 2TB. They are all equipped with a copper foil heat sink. The company does not provide performance data for each variant, but overall the series claims a maximum sequential read speed of 7000 MB / s and a maximum sequential write speed of 6500 MB / s. Performance on operations with random access reaches 1.4 million IOPS in read mode and 1.3 million IOPS in write mode. For the 500 GB variant, the resource is 500 TBW, for the 1 TB variant – 750 TB, for the 2 TB variant – 1200 TB. The drives are backed by a five-year warranty. The manufacturer promises to announce prices and terms of the start of sales later this quarter.
