PlayStation 5 sales are approaching the 6 million mark, but very slowly. There is a production crisis

The source published updated statistics on sales of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo game consoles. Globally, the balance of power has not changed: PlayStation 5 is still in the lead, Nintendo Switch is in second place, and Xbox Series X and Series S are in third. But only the growth curve gravitates less and less to the ordinate axis.

This says only one thing: the dynamics of sales is slowing down. After all, demand remains steadily high: new shipments of consoles in such large online stores as Amazon and BestBuy are dismantled in a matter of hours. Hence the conclusion: sales are slowing down due to the production crisis. And with Microsoft consoles the same story: from about 8 weeks of sales – the schedule is more stretched in time. And this is not surprising, because the latest generation Sony and Microsoft set-top boxes use almost the same AMD components, which are clearly not produced by TSMC in sufficient quantities to meet the demand in the global market.

During this time, Nintendo Switch sold 3,968,615 units, and the total sales of Xbox Series X and Series S amounted to 3,837,426 units. Microsoft is catching up with the Nintendo console, and may soon overtake it. As for market shares, after 16 weeks of sales, they were distributed as follows: PlayStation 5 – 42.9% of the market, Nintendo Switch – 29%, Xbox Series X and Series S together – 28.1%.
