PM is suspected of killing a dog in Guarapari: ‘Children asked for the love of God not to shoot’

The CPI on Mistreatment of the Legislative Assembly of Espírito Santo is investigating the shooting death of a golden retriever dog, on Saturday, the 9th, on a beach in Guarapari, on the south coast of Espírito Santo.

The suspicion is that the crime was committed by a retired military police officer from Minas Gerais. He claims to have acted to defend himself from the animal’s attack.

According to digital influencer Iasmin Lima, who was the guardian of the dog Churros, her pet was walking without a leash along the Praia do Morro promenade, as he always did and, upon seeing the suspect, he barked and jumped on the police officer. In addition to Churros, Iasmin was accompanied by her brothers aged 9 and 12, and also her son, just one year old.

“We all begged. The children asked for God’s sake not to shoot. But he continued with the gun pointed in our direction, to intimidate, and killed Churros”, Iasmin reported to Estadão. She says she even helped the animal at a nearby veterinary clinic, but to no avail.

The attacker fled the scene without providing assistance. The 52-year-old suspect was later located by the police, taken to the 5th Regional Police Station of Guarapari and charged with animal abuse. The police officer was taken to the Guarapari Provisional Detention Center, where he underwent a custody hearing, had his weapon collected and was released.

Iasmin had to sign a detailed statement “for not keeping a dangerous animal with due caution”, as Churros was walking without a leash at the time of the incident. She was released, but will need to appear in court for the case to proceed.
