The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of São Paulo reported, this Wednesday (26), that the five agents involved in recording a video in which the American influencer Gen Kimura follows a police chase and the routine of the PMs were removed from their functions. Find out who the influencer is.
The Military Police opened an investigation to investigate the case. On Tuesday (25), the SSP had already announced the removal of the military police officer who authorized the recording.
The video, published earlier this month, shows Kimura not only inside the police vehicle, but also participating in preparatory training for agents. At one point, the police show the squad inside, including the storage of weapons used in the actions.
During the video, the influencer, accompanied by the military, participates in chases and attacks in three different favelas in São Paulo.
In a statement, the Military Police Ombudsman said that it opened a procedure to investigate possible administrative misconduct committed by the agents and states that several irregularities were committed in the recording. The body requested action from the PM’s Internal Affairs Department, the Civil Police Internal Affairs Department and also from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
“We note the use of restricted Military Police equipment by a civilian, such as a weapon and ballistic vest, the boarding of a civilian without any training in a vehicle to respond to the incident, incursions into the community with entry into homes without a warrant, access to restricted areas of the battalion guarding war material, and most outrageous of all: the record that police officers celebrate deaths with cigars and beer”, says the note.
During one of the chases, Kimura’s video records the moment when one of the police officers says that the deaths of supposed criminals are celebrated with “cigars and beers”.
The SSP stated that the aforementioned phrase does not match the practices adopted by the State security forces.
“The spectacularization of violence produces harmful results in the corporation and in society as a whole, transforming civil servants into vigilantes and citizens into audiences of a morbid spectacle that we no longer wish to see staged,” concludes the Ombudsman’s note.
