The Environmental Policing Battalion (BPAMB) seized on Thursday (23),19 birds of different species in the municipality of Lajes in Rio Grande do Norte. The Military Police reported that the birds were kept in captivity without proper environmental authorization.
According to the PM, among the birds seized were: Galos-de-Campina, Azulões, Tico-Ticos and other species such as Golinha, Concris, Canção de Cambacica, Conto de Prata and Cravina Vermelha.
At least 19 cages and six trapdoors used to capture the birds were also collected.
According to those responsible for the operation, the seized birds were sent to the competent authorities for appropriate measures. The breeding, capture and sale of wild animals without authorization are crimes covered by environmental legislation and can result in fines and criminal sanctions.
In a statement, the commander of the 2nd Environmental Policing Company, Captain PM Victor, highlighted the importance of the population’s collaboration in combating environmental crimes and reinforced BPAMB’s commitment to preserving local fauna and flora.
