A military police officer in Rio de Janeiro shot an unarmed man in the foot after an argument in front of the Cascadura Forum, in the northern part of the capital.
The case took place this Tuesday morning (14) and was recorded by a witness. The images circulate on social media.
The author of the video comments that the man is unarmed and that the police officer is abusing his authority.
In the images, it is possible to see that a third person tries to stop the confusion, which continues until the soldier fires five shots from a firearm and hits the victim’s foot, who falls to the ground and screams in pain.
The injured man was rescued and taken to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital, in the Penha neighborhood.
The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro informed that the Internal Affairs of the corporation opened an investigation procedure and analyzes the circumstances of the incident.
The case was registered at the 29th DP, located in Madureira.
The military police officer was heard at the police station, where he claimed that the man tried to take his gun and therefore fired the shots.
Civil police also claim that witnesses are heard for the progress of the investigation.
