PM takes 105 fans to the police station after confusion in Salvador

The Military Police of Bahia (PMBA) took 105 fans to the police station last Saturday afternoon (25) after confusion and acts of vandalism in Periperi, in the Subúrbio Ferroviário, in Salvador.

The commotion occurred shortly before the match between Esporte Clube Vitória and Colo Colo, valid for the 4th round of the Bahian Championship, at Arena Fonte Nova. According to the PM, teams from the Specialized Events Policing Battalion (Bepe), the 17th CIPM and other units in the region were called to reports of fights and disorder in the region. Among those detained, 15 were minors.

In a press release, the PM reported that, following the calls, Military Police teams traveled to Avenida Afrânio Peixoto, in Periperi, where they located and detained the suspects. “With them, five brass knuckles, six cans of spray paint, a pocket knife, scissors, four cigarettes and a portion of marijuana and a rock of crack were seized.”

Those involved were taken to specialized police stations, where they were interviewed and released after signing a Detailed Occurrence Statement (TCO) for riot and violence.

In addition to the incident in Periperi, members of Torcida Uniformizada Os Imbatíveis (TUI) were involved in another fight with Bahia fans in a bar in the Engenho Velho de Brotas region, in Salvador. During the confusion, objects such as chairs and tables were thrown.

The Civil Police opened an investigation to investigate crimes of qualified damage and the participation of minors in the incidents.

Outside the Arena Fonte Nova, fans of Esporte Clube Vitória reported aggression and brutality on the part of the Military Police (PM). Images circulating on social media show officers using batons to disperse the crowd. In response, the club expressed itself through an official note, expressing its rejection of the situation and stating that it will take action.

“We inform you that the recorded images will be forwarded to the Military Police Command of the State of Bahia so that any excesses can be investigated. Vitória does not condone these attitudes and will never remain silent in situations like this. We demand respect from our fans, who are an example of behavior in all fields in Brazil”, informed the note.

The Military Police of Bahia also spoke, clarifying that, during the organization of traffic for the arrival of the Esporte Clube Vitória delegation at the Fonte Nova Stadium, the proportional use of police force was necessary to reestablish order. The PMBA stated that fans of an organized group blocked the roads and disobeyed the security team’s instructions, which hampered mobility and prevented the passage of ambulances.

“PMBA emphasizes that its presence in the stadiums aims to guarantee the safety of fans and the tranquility of the event, seeking to preserve order and the well-being of everyone involved. The Corporation Command ordered the immediate investigation of the facts to clarify the circumstances of the incident, reaffirming its commitment to legality and transparency. The PMBA does not condone excesses and must always act based on technique and respect for citizens’ rights”, explained the PM in a note.
