PM who killed motorcyclist in fight over R$7 is removed from office for 120 days

Pernambuco Military Police sergeant Venilson Cândido da Silva, aged 50, was removed from public duties for 120 days after being arrested for killing app pilot Thiago Fernandes Bezerra, aged 23, in Camaragibe, in the Metropolitan Region of Pernambuco. Reef.

The decision was taken by the Secretary of Social Defense, Alessandro Carvalho, and published in an ordinance this Wednesday (4).

On Monday (2), after the custody hearing, the Pernambuco Court decided to convert the police officer’s arrest in the act into preventive detention.

Referred to the Military Police Reeducation Center (Creed), Venilson is awaiting the outcome of the investigations and administrative process, which could result in his expulsion from the corporation.

According to secretary Alessandro Carvalho, the PM’s removal aims to “guarantee public order, the regular investigation of the disciplinary process, which is in progress by the SDS General Inspectorate, and the feasibility of the correct application of disciplinary sanctions”.

In the document, the secretary added that the decision was taken in light of “evidence of acts incompatible with public functions” by Venilson. If the Administrative Disciplinary Process is not concluded within the 120-day period, the measure may be extended for an equal period, as established in the decision.

The crime occurred last Sunday (1), after an argument between the police officer and the motorcyclist about paying R$7 for a ride. Security cameras recorded the moment when Venilson took out a .38 caliber revolver and shot Thiago, who died at the scene.

The police officer tried to escape, but was captured minutes later, on a bus on Avenida Belmiro Correia, still in Camaragibe.

The PM remains in prison and awaits the progress of the investigations, which are being conducted by the 10th Homicide Police Station of Pernambuco.
