The Military Police removed two agents this Friday (10) after a case involving aggression on the outskirts of São Paulo. The case was disclosed after a video posted on social networks.
The video shows a man in jeans and a black shirt being beaten by a police officer with a slap to the head and then being kicked in the upper region. The victim falls to the ground and then the agents head to the vehicle.
The second agent even points a gun at the man, who was accompanied by two others at the beginning of the approach.
The case took place in Jardim Brasil, a neighborhood in the north of São Paulo. The police officers in the video belong to the 1st Company of the 5th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion (BPM-M), which is located in Novo Mundo Park, close to where the attack took place.
An inquiry by the Internal Affairs was opened, as standard procedure. Police officers may be punished with a warning, suspension or expulsion, and the aggressor may also be liable for the crime of torture.
The command of the 5th Metropolitan Military Police Battalion stated that it became aware of the images on Thursday (9) and ordered the removal of the police for investigation.
“The Military Police vehemently repudiates this act and reaffirms its commitment to protecting people and respecting the law, being absolutely relentless against any misconduct by its agents,” said the battalion command.
São Paulo police ombudsman Elizeu Soares Neto informed CNN that the Ombudsman is aware of and following the case.
“We demand the removal of preventive police officers, the opening of a military police inquiry (IPM), we urge the MP, due to the gravity, to investigate whether the attacks are analogous to torture. “The scenes are terrible, they are not worthy for a member of the Military Police,” said the ombudsman.
So far, the victim has not been identified.
