A 63-year-old woman, identified as Lenilda Messias and Juarez Higino, her 39-year-old son, and two other family members, were attacked by military police inside their own garage, on the night of last Wednesday (4), at Jardim Regina Alice, in Barueri, São Paulo.
According to Juarez, his son was in front of the house with his motorcycle, when the police officers approached him and found that the vehicle had delayed licensing and that they were going to impound it. In an attempt to help his son, he went to talk to the agents to remove the belongings from the motorcycle before it was seized, which made the police officers angry.
Witnesses arrived at the scene and helped them close the garage door, whereupon the soldiers broke down the gate and entered with “brutality”. “They beat me, my son, my mother and my sister” – said Juarez.

Lenilda Messias went to the hospital and registered a police report at the Barueri Police Headquarters. According to Juarez, all those attacked in the family went to the IML in Osasco for a forensic examination this Thursday morning (5).
The Police Ombudsman’s Office became aware of the case, and demanded a change of stance from the PM, the Public Security Secretariat and asked the governor of São Paulo, current Tarcísio de Freitas, to take the necessary measures to “replace public security in the its due place and protect and defend the population”.
In a note, the Public Security Secretariat stated that the case was forwarded to the Military Police Internal Affairs Department for investigation and appropriate measures and that the Military Police does not condone misconduct, ensuring that any occurrence involving excesses will be investigated and the agents duly punished.
The Civil Police analyzes the images of the incident and investigates all the circumstances of the events.
