The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro (PMERJ) removed the agents filmed singing congratulations to a militia member who is being held in custody in a hospital in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
In a note sent to CNN , PMERJ reported that the police officers “were removed from street duty and are subject to an Administrative Disciplinary Procedure.” They also justify that “the corporation's command does not condone misconduct or crimes committed by its members, severely punishing those involved.”
The video, released on social media, shows the police inside the bed at Pedro II Municipal Hospital alongside other patients singing congratulations to Jean Arruda da Silva, who appears handcuffed to the stretcher and with one of his hands bandaged. The celebration included cake, soft drinks and a candle for the birthday boy.
The police officers involved in the situation were summoned to give a statement at the 2nd Military Judiciary Police Station (2nd DPJ) this Monday (11), according to the Rio de Janeiro PM Inspectorate.
Regarding the criminal group that Jean was part of, the “militia tram” was made up of 15 militiamen, who were detained together during a Civil Police operation, with the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Military Police on Avenida Brasil on the last day. 7.
