Podemos leaders defend Arthur do Val’s immediate departure

With the negative repercussion of sexist speeches attributed to Arthur do Val, national leaders of Podemos have defended this Saturday (5th) the immediate departure of the state deputy from the party, avoiding increasing the wear and tear on the image of the caption.

According to reports made to CNNleaders of the party have been sending messages since Friday (4th) to the national president of the acronym, Renata Abreu, asking for a quick decision that shields the presidential candidacy of former federal judge Sergio Moro.

The party announced on Friday (4) the opening of a disciplinary procedure to evaluate the parliamentary statements. For the party’s leaders, however, postponing the decision only prolongs the political crisis faced by the party.

The leader of Podemos in the Federal Senate, Álvaro Dias (PR), for example, defends that a decision by the party be taken this Saturday (5).

“Ideally, he would ask for disaffiliation from the party, which would save us. The acronym has to be announced quickly, preferably this Saturday. It is not possible to compact with the declarations. Either he leaves or he is expelled already,” he stated.

The defense of a quick decision is shared by members of the party that articulate Moro’s candidacy. For them, an expulsion would have to be taken this weekend, to prevent the episode from deepening the electoral ammunition against the presidential candidate.

The negative repercussion of the parliamentarian’s statements increased an internal assessment in the party that the presidential candidate’s alliance with the MBL (Movimento Brasil Livre) was a mistake.

This Saturday (5), Arthur do Val – known for the YoTtube channel Mamãe Falei – apologized for the content of the audios attributed to him, in which he says that Ukrainian refugees “are easy because they are poor”.

He went to Ukraine earlier this week to, he said, “go, ‘on the spot’, see what is happening” during the invasion of the country by Russian forces, led by President Vladimir Putin.

“I deeply regret and vehemently repudiate the serious statements made by deputy Arthur do Val published by the press. The treatment of Ukrainian refugee women and the country’s police officers is unacceptable in any context. The statements are incompatible with any public man,” Moro said.
