Poinsettias: the things you need to know to make them last

Bring the Tropics home: because that’s where the Christmas Star. Its botanical name is Euphorbia pulcherrima, but it is also called Poinsettia, with the name of Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first American ambassador to Mexico. He was so fascinated by it that he took it to the United States showing it to the world, who immediately appreciated the beauty of this plant full of colorful leaves – red, but not only – which soon became a symbol of holidays.

We are used to seeing it small, up to one meter high, but in reality Euphorbia pulcherrima, in its areas of origin, develops as large shrub or as a small tree. The secret to maintaining its beauty, and making it last a long time, is precisely being able to recreate the tropical habitat at home.

To find out how, in the gallery above you will find the advice of Stars for Europe, an association of European growers of Poinsettias that promotes the culture linked to this beautiful plant, also suggesting how to take care of it. Browse the gallery
