The expertise identified arsenic in husband and son’s urine of Deise Moura dos Anjos, suspected of triple homicide in the case of the poisoned cake in Torres, Rio Grande do Sul.
Diego Silva dos Anjos and the child took the exam last Tuesday (14). The material collected from both tested positive for the substance as determined by the CNN .
The samples were collected at the Legal Medical Center of Osório (RS) and sent for analysis at the General Institute of Expertise (IGP). THE CNN also found that Deise’s mother-in-law, Zeli Teresina Silva dos Santos, underwent the same exam, in which she also the presence of arsenic was identified.
The police are still trying to clarify when the substance was digested by the husband and son of suspicion, especially if it was before or after the death of his father-in-law, Paulo Luiz dos Anjos, who died in September 2024.
Deise is temporarily arrested since January 5th for triple double homicide and triple attempted homicide. She is suspected of having poisoned a cake with arsenic, which killed three women and left two other people hospitalized, including her mother-in-law, Zeli dos Anjos, on Christmas Eve 2024.
About the case
The investigation, named “Operation Acqua Toffana”, points out that Deise had a history of family disagreements and that her mother-in-law would be her main target.
The police have already confirmed that Deise’s father-in-law, Paulo Luiz dos Anjos, was also killed by arsenic poisoning, three months before the cake incident. The poison was found in samples of powdered milk.
After confirming Paulo Luiz’s death from poisoning, the police began to investigate whether Deise committed other similar crimes.
Understand how she manipulated her family to hide crimes.
Messages recovered from Deise’s cell phone reveal that she researched arsenic on the internet before the crimes and that she tried to cover her tracks, manipulating her family. She tried to cremate her father-in-law’s body to hide traces of the crime, police say.
The police believe that Deise may have tried to poison people other than the victims of the arsenic cake and her father-in-law. The delegate responsible for the case, Marcos Veloso, stated that all deaths due to poisoning in Deise’s community will be investigated.
