Two of the five people in the family who ate a possibly poisoned cake in the city of Torres, in Rio Grande do Sul, showed clear improvement in the clinical picture this Wednesday (25). The information is according to the medical bulletin from Hospital Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes, where patients are hospitalized due to food poisoning.
One of the patients is responsible for preparing the cake Zeli Teresinha Silva, and the other is her great-nephew, just 10 years old, who, even in the ICU, was able to talk to some family members. Despite the two survivors, three other family members died of intoxication after ingesting the candy. They are Zeli’s niece and two of her sisters.
The police highlight that the hypothesis of possible poisoning also is not ruled out .
According to researchers, several expired products were found in the person responsible’s house for preparing the cake. Clinical and toxicological samples from the patients were sent for analysis by the hospital to the Toxicological Information Center (CIT), in Porto Alegre (RS).
The food consumed by the family was seized for forensic examination. The Civil Police sent the bodies for autopsy at the General Institute of Expertise (IGP).
