The Maranhão Civil Police confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday (30) the presence of Chumbinho in the poisoned chocolate egg, which resulted in the death of two minors, João Pedro, 7 years old; and Evillyn Fernanda, 13. The victims’ mother, Mirian Lira, is still hospitalized. The case occurred in Empress, in the interior of the state.
During the press conference, the Secretariat of Public Security also stated that the investigation established by the Empress Homicide Police Station for investigation of the case was completed and sent to the court.
Faced with the tests, 35-year-old Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, who is ex-girlfriend of Mirian Lira’s current companion, was indicted for double qualified homicide and attempted qualified homicide. She is still arrested, and was transferred to women’s prison of the capital of São Luís, where she will wait for trial.
Remember the case
An Easter egg was delivered to Mirian Lira’s house last Wednesday (16). That night three people in the family consumed the chocolate: Mirian herself, and her two children, João Pedro and Evillyn Fernanda.
Shortly after eating the candy, the three people started to get sick. The situation worsened quickly to the boy João Pedro, who died on Thursday (17). His mother, Mirian, and his sister, Evely, were rescued and taken in serious condition to the Municipal Hospital of Imperatriz, where they were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Evely Fernanda Rocha Silva, 13, died on Tuesday (22), after six days hospitalized with her mother due to poisoning.
The first findings made by the Civil Police, pointed to Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, ex-girlfriend of the current companion of Mirian Lira, as the main suspect.
The investigations revealed that Jordelia would have traveled from Santa Inês to Empress to execute the crime. She would have bought the Easter egg disguised with a wig not to be recognized, according to images of security cameras. The candy was delivered to Mirian’s house by a motorcycle taxi driver, who, according to police, was unaware of the content.
Police arrested Jordelia on the afternoon of Thursday (17), on a disturbance bus when she was trying to return to Santa Inês. With it were found the wig and the goggles of the disguise, as well as other objects.
The main line of police investigation is the motivation for jealousy and revenge, due to Jordelian’s previous relationship with Mirian’s current companion.
