Poland and the United States have signed an agreement of nearly $ 2 billion for the delivery of logistical support to the Patriot Air Defense System, the Polish Minister of Defense said on Monday (31).
Poland is increasing its defense capabilities, positioning itself as a protagonist in the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in front of an assertive Russia and also a US administration under Donald Trump, which harshly criticized Europe on security issues.
The agreement with the Americans concerns the delivery of logistical support to the Patriot system within the Armed Forces and includes technical support components as well as training.
The Ministry of Defense of Poland stated that the implementation of the agreement would allow the operational readiness of Patriot launchers, which form the basis of the Wisla program. It aims to combat, among other things, short -range tactical ballistic missiles, including maneuver missiles.
Encouraged by the large -scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022, Poland became NATO’s greatest speaker in terms of the proportion of its national wealth dedicated to the defense. Warsaw said he spent 4.1% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in defense in 2024, with a promise to increase this to 4.7% by 2025.
