Groups of migrants again attempted to cross the Belarus-Poland border overnight, Polish Defense Minister Marius Blazak said in an interview with RMF FM.
“There were attacks on the Polish border. Now, the migrants are using slightly different methods. Smaller groups of people are trying to cross by force from many places,” the minister said, noting that last night “was no different from the previous ones”.
Blazak said the migrants were being instigated by Belarussian security forces.
Police in the Podlaska border area said migrants threw stones at police and destroyed two official vehicles. “Yesterday, in the Starzina area, a group of immigrants pelted police and soldiers with stones,” police said on Twitter, adding that no one was injured.
In recent weeks, thousands of illegal immigrants have gathered at the Belarus-Poland border, hoping to cross into European Union territory. Warsaw accuses Minsk of organizing the immigration crisis, something Belarus denies.
According to the Polish border guard, the number of migrants attempting to cross from Belarus to Poland fell on Friday, with 195 attempts recorded, from 250 on Thursday and 501 on Wednesday.
Poland, however, warns that the migration crisis is not over.
“Yesterday (…) there were many attempts to cross the border by force. The largest group consisted of about 200 foreigners, the others (attempts) were from groups of dozens of people. The aliens were aggressive, throwing stones, crackers and tear gas,” she said. border guard on Twitter.
“This political crisis is not coming to an end. Belarus is still interested in escalating and continuing its operations against Poland,” said Stanislaw Zarin, a spokesman for the Polish security services.
Polish Prime Minister Matthew Morawiecki will visit Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia tomorrow Sunday to discuss developments with his Baltic counterparts.
