Poland announced today that it has arrested a German citizen on charges of trafficking and exporting dual-use items to Russia. “The German citizen trafficked specialized machinery used in the technology industry, which, through his company, was illegally shipped to Russian military facilities involved in the production of weapons,” the Homeland Security Service said in a statement. “The suspect pleaded guilty and filed for voluntary acceptance of the sentence.” Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the European Union has already imposed 11 packages of sanctions against Moscow in order to limit the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war. The measures concern all sectors and include approximately 1,800 persons and entities. The sanctions include a ban on the sale to Russia of certain dual-use goods and technologies, which have both civilian and military applications.
