Poland announced today that it had proposed to US officials that Russia be excluded from the G20, the group of the world’s largest economies, and that the proposal had received a “positive response”.
Economic Development and Technology Minister Piotr Novak said in a statement that the issue was discussed at meetings last week in Washington.
“In the meetings, among others, with Gina Raimondo (US Secretary of Commerce) we proposed the exclusion of Russia from the G20 and we received a positive response. The issue will be taken over by President (Joe) Biden,” Novak told reporters in Warsaw.
So far there has been no reaction from the US Department of Commerce. Although he did not comment specifically on the Polish announcement, a US source said that Russia had violated international rules and would therefore have to suffer the consequences in international forums.
