Poland on alert: Plans to send up to 10,000 troops to border with Belarus

Poland plans to move up to 10,000 additional troops to its border with Belarus to reinforce the Border Guard, Defense Minister Marius Blaszczak announced today.

“About 10,000 soldiers will go to the border, of which 4,000 will immediately reinforce the Border Guard and 6,000 will be in reserve,” the minister said in an interview on public radio.

“We are moving the army closer to the border with Belarus to scare the attacker so that he does not dare to attack usBlaszczak said.

Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Vasik said yesterday, Wednesday, that Poland will send 2,000 additional soldiers to its border with Belarus.

The head of the Polish Border Guard, Tomasz Praga, said earlier this week that 19,000 people have tried to cross Poland’s border with Belarus illegally this year, up from 16,000 last year.
