Poland refuses to pay in rubles for Russian gas

The Polish gas group PGNiG has announced that it will continue to pay for the supply of Russian gas in accordance with the terms of the contract and that it will refuse payment in rubles, as demanded by Moscow.

Germany, for which such a change constitutes a “breach of contract”, and Austria have already rejected the demand made yesterday by Vladimir Putin.

“We do not see this possibility,” said Pavel Mazewski, president of the Polish group.

“The contract, the details of which I can not reveal, defines the method of payment. It is not provided that one party can change it at will,” he said, according to the Polish news agency PAP.

“We will implement this agreement in compliance with our commitments,” he said.

The current contract, called the “Yamal contract” expires this year. Poland expects to get rid of its dependence on Russian gas soon, mainly thanks to the Baltic Pipe pipeline, which will supply it with Norwegian gas via Denmark and the liquefied natural gas terminal at the port of Swinoujssa. transported by ships.
