Poland Zoo Rescues Lions, Tigers and Other Animals at Ukrainian Border

In addition to millions of people, domestic and wild animals are also being affected by the clashes between Russia and Ukraine – which are now in their 25th day. Against this backdrop, a zoo in Poland works to rescue animals from Ukrainian territory.

Last week, in partnership with Stichting Leeuw (Lion Foundation), located in the Netherlands, the Poznan Zoo rescued lions, tigers, foxes, cats and domestic dogs.

The Lion Foundation will house the wild cats: two lions, aged one and three years, and two tigers, aged six months and five years. According to information from the Foundation, the animals are in a quarantine space and within a month they must go to the main building.

“We are now keeping an eye on them. The biggest concern at this point is the sick 5-year-old tigress,” she communicated.

Since the beginning of the war, thousands of pets have been abandoned by their owners, who are hastily fleeing the war. the reporter from CNN Brazil envoy to Ukraine, Mathias Brotero, visited one of the places that is open 24 hours a day to receive animals in Lviv, a city close to the border with Poland.

While it is not yet known how many animals have been taken in by shelters like this across Ukraine, one volunteer points out that most of those rescued are cats.
