Poland: Zoo searches for name for newborn of rare tiny species of deer

The Warsaw Zoo is asking for suggestions for the name of a newborn female southern point, one of the smallest species of deer in the world, which came into the world two months ago. Native to the forests of Chile and Argentina, an adult pundu is up to 46 cm tall and weighs up to 15 kg. Zoo officials asked the public to suggest names starting with the letter “P” via Facebook, as they did with other animals born this year. The zoo’s marketing manager Anna Tantra explained that with this birth, the population of pundus at the zoo now stands at 4. “This is a very important birth because it is an endangered species,” she said. “The southern pudu is a very secretive animal… it’s really hard to spot her outside because she hides somewhere in the bushes under the watchful eye of her mother.” Source: RES
