Canadian 2015 world pole vault champion Sean Barber has died aged 29.
His agent, Paul Doyle, confirmed to Reuters that the athlete passed away on Wednesday (1/17) at his home in Kirkwood, Texas from “medical complications”.
“More than just an incredible athlete, Sean was such a kind-hearted person who always put others before himself,” Doyle said, adding: “It's tragic to lose such a good person at such a young age.”
Barber had won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games, and a few weeks later he upset Beijing by winning gold at the Worlds. His best jump, which was 6 meters on January 15, 2016, is still a Canadian record. He also competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
