For the first time about the Polestar 2 electric car, which is produced by Polestar, a Volvo sub-brand, it became known back in 2019. At the moment, the limited edition Launch Edition has already gone to release, but the cost of the car is too high for it to become widespread. Now you can buy Polestar 2 Launch Edition for 60 thousand dollars, but the manufacturer decided that it is possible to take drastic measures to reduce the cost of the second numbered version of the electric car. For this, one electric motor will be banally removed from the original car, leaving only the front power plant.
Naturally, this will noticeably affect the characteristics of the new version of Polestar 2 – instead of 408 horsepower, the manufacturer will leave only 231 “horses”, and the car has now become front-wheel drive, since the power plant rotates only the front wheels. On the other hand, the simplified version of the car will receive the same battery as the original version – 78 kWh. Due to this, Polestar 2 provides the user with 418 kilometers of mileage on a single battery charge, but, of course, it should be borne in mind that we are talking about driving with one pilot without passengers and additional load.
In addition, the car will be offered in the basic configuration without all sorts of Launch Edition bonuses. However, if desired, the user can purchase all sorts of options from a driver assistance package to a panoramic roof. The company also announced the release of the second version of Polestar 2, which will be equipped with two motors, but also devoid of all the advantages and features of the Launch Edition. That is, now the buyer will have a choice – to take the luxury Launch Edition for 60 thousand dollars, order a more affordable version with two motors, but without bonuses, or purchase the most affordable single-engine version.
Unfortunately, so far the cost of the two new versions of the electric car is not named, but they will clearly be cheaper than the starting version, and the manufacturer has promised to send the single-engine novelty on sale by the end of 2021.
