This Saturday (28), 11 people were arrested for scamming a fake call center in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.
The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police reported that the group had an office that operated as a clandestine call center. Through telemarketing, they carried out payroll loan fraud.
The agents found several notes on financial transactions at the establishment and a script on how the attendants should act, over the phone, to convince the victims to accept the loan.
According to the police, one of the victims, born in Espírito Santo, fell victim to the gang’s scam twice.
Investigators discovered that call center scammers consulted customers’ banking details, analyzed loans and offered false benefits.
After convincing the person, the suspects told him that he should deposit a sum of money to pay off the original loan. However, no installments were paid.
According to the police, the fake telemarketing employees knew that the company was running scams. All were arrested red-handed and will face criminal organization charges.
According to lawyer and specialist in consumer law, Cátia Vita, banks do not charge amounts to release a loan: “Consumers should be suspicious when the person starts the conversation saying that, in order to get the loan, they must make an advance payment. Scammers often take all of the consumer’s documentation and say that the credit was approved through a prior deposit. This is a scam.”
The lawyer also states that, if the payment made by the victim was through Pix, she may be able to recover the money: “The person who suffered this scam should contact the bank where they used Pix to try to reverse this amount. She must also look for a police station with all the evidence and documents to register the incident. This way the police can locate criminals. “
