Five traders were arrested this Tuesday (25) after being caught by police officers from the State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic) selling counterfeit football team shirts. The action took place in stores in Lapa, in the West Zone of São Paulo, and in the municipality of Diadema, in Greater ABC. All irregular material was seized.
The operation was conducted by police officers from the 1st General Investigations Police Station (DIG), specialized in Anti-Piracy. The team investigated the sale of football team shirts made without the authorization of sports associations or their legal representatives. Investigations identified five stores involved in the sale of these counterfeit products.
During the operation, the 1st DIG team seized a total of 4,847 counterfeit shirts. All material will be sent for forensic examination, in order to prove the violation of the intellectual property rights of the sports brands.
Framework in the General Sports Law
Traders were covered by the General Sports Law (LGE), which prohibits the reproduction, imitation, falsification or undue modification of any distinctive signs, emblems, brands, logos and other symbols belonging to sports organizations. The LGE establishes penalties for those who carry out these acts, aiming to protect the rights of sports associations and their legal representatives.
